Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has received a major plea from Orlando Pirates fans regarding the vacant coaching position at the South African club.

Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has received pleas from fans back home to abandon Kenya and take up the Orlando Pirates job.

Pirates are looking for a new coach after Spanish tactician Jose Riveiro confirmed that he will be departing after Tuesday’s league match and McCarthy is among names that have been floated around as possible replacements.

This is due to his standing not just as a South African legend but a former Pirates player, who played a leading role in the club’s last league title in 2012.

McCarthy, alongside veteran Pitso Mosimane and Rhulani Mokwena, who has left Moroccan club Wydad AC, are the three leading South African tacticians for the job although the club would also be inclined to look beyond the borders.

However, as Pirates continue their search, a number of their fans have already made up their mind and feel McCarthy would be the right pick despite the fact that he is just over two months into his new job as coach of the Kenya national team.

The Pirates fans even dragged in one of McCarthy’s assistants Moeneeb Josephs, the Harambee Stars goalkeeper trainer, telling him online that they would like him to join the former Manchester United first-team coach back home at Pirates.

Here are some of the comments from Pirates fans pleading with Benni McCarthy to return home.

“Fingers crossed, member! The departing Jose [Riveiro] has done a good job...now the team needs that Benni-Slim kat combo (passion and knowhow) to reach the next level (league and second star). It will be a blow for the Kenyans but home is home brother.” - @MsandraSandza

“Honestly, I would love to see @bennimccarthy17 @moeneeb_josephs and possibly Joseph Makhanya joining the Pirates technical team of @orlandopirates next season.” -@Soweto_boi

“He's definitely going to Pirates. Sundowns technical team must brace themselves, this dude [McCarthy] is very talented.” - @King_Vegetarian

“Benni has two milestones in South Africa, manage OP [Orlando Pirates], then Bafana Bafana. He's the only capable legend of both.” - @Scotchtizo

“Benni McCarthy is a Buccaneer in blood. He knows what it takes to play for the badge, he has won us a league as a player and I'm confident that he will win us a league as a coach. He did well in Cape Town City and AmaZulu. His experience in Man United will benefit our team.” - @MsunukaRacism

“Benni McCarthy we can't wait to have you at @orlandopirates.” - @Starblack74

“We can't wait for coach Benni. I'll choose Benni over Rhulani any day.” - @Ghosty_SA

“The true son of the soil who can lead the Bucs, not that one who got booted in Morocco [Mokwena]. He can go and coach Magesi or something or Kaizer [Chiefs] since [Nasreddine] Nabi wa vaya.” - @REALEXC7

While the fans have the desire to see McCarthy in the Pirates hot seat, that decision is out of their hands with a number of factors set to be considered before the South African giants appoint their next coach.
