African giants Al Ahly have reportedly reached an agreement with a Spanish coach after luring him from a South Africa giant, two weeks after parting ways with Marcel Koller.

Egyptian giants Al Ahly have reportedly found a new coach to replace departed Swiss tactician Marcel Koller.

Koller left Al Ahly after the Cairo Red Devils exited the CAF Champions League at the semi-final stage and they began a search for a new coach.

Reports in North Africa claimed former Liverpool and Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez was approached but turned down the job but after a frantic search, the club have reportedly settled on another Spanish coach.

As per multiple reports on Monday, Al Ahly have reached an agreement with Spanish coach Jose Riveiro who has been managing South African giants Orlando Pirates for the last three years.

Riveiro had revealed last month that he will not be renewing his contract when it expires at the end of the season but things accelerated on Monday when Pirates announced that they had reached an agreement with the tactician to release him early as he had secured a job with another club.

Jose Riveiro Leaves Pirates with His Stock High

Spanish coach Jose Riveiro has won five trophies in three years at Orlando Pirates.

“Jose approached us a few weeks ago with a request to be released from his contract ahead of schedule, having signed with a new club,” Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza said through a club statement.

It then became clear that Al Ahly were the club that Riveiro had agreed to take over with the club wanting him in early to prepare for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup that kicks off on June 14 in the United States.

According to African football journalist Micky Jr, Riveiro has been handed a two-year contract, with the option for another, and he will be the highest paid coach in Africa, joining with his five-member backroom staff.

Riveiro established Pirates as a force in South African football after years of struggle and leaves after winning five trophies and also took them to the CAF Champions League semi-final for the first time since 2013 this season.
