Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag has blamed the hectic scheduling of the Premier League for the injury suffered by star forward Marcus Rashford in their 2-0 win over Everton

Manchester United claimed a win over Everton in Saturday’s early kickoff with goals from Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial, whose goal was assisted by Rashford after 71 minutes, but the Englishman picked up an injury just 10 minutes later.

Manchester United’s Ten Hag blamed the injury to Rashford on the congested fixture list that he had already complained about ahead of the fixture, saying that the league needed to protect its players if they expect entertaining football. 

Ten Hag critical of Premier League scheduling

Before the game against Everton, Ten Hag said, "We have three games to cover in six days - which is not right, but we have to deal with it.”

Following Rashford’s injury, he echoed those sentiments, saying the injury was due to fixture congestion, imploring the Premier League to do better for its players. 

He said, "We have to wait [on Rashford's injury], it doesn't look good. Once again it's due to the schedule, you can't play three games in six days. We have to protect our players.

"Everyone wants the best players on the pitch, everyone wants to see great entertaining football like today. But you need your best players."

Rashford joins Luke Shaw as high-profile names out injured for Manchester United in a critical part of the season. 

While it is unknown when the forward will return, Ten Hag’s comments give a worrying prognosis for his injury, as he might be out for an extended period. 

Rashford has been in sensational form for the Red Devils this season with 27 goals and 10 assists in 47 games across all competitions, helping them to the UEFA Europa League semifinal, as well as a possible top-four finish in the Premier League.
