Kenya has been drawn into a daunting CHAN group featuring continental heavyweights Morocco, DR Congo, Angola, and Zambia, all teams with a rich tournament pedigree.

Yet, the Gor Mahia midfield dynamo refuses to be intimidated.

“We’re in a tough group with big teams like Morocco, DR Congo, Angola, and Zambia,” Onyango admitted.

“All three fixtures are exciting. I can’t single one out — they’re all huge games, and we’re motivated for each one.”

His confidence stems from not only his club form with Gor Mahia but also a belief in the progress of local footballers in the country.

CHAN, being exclusively for players active in their domestic leagues, offers stars like Onyango a rare spotlight.

Onyango’s rise from Gor Mahia Youth to the Harambee Stars squad is a testament to his perseverance and steady growth in Kenyan football.

Reflecting on his journey, midfielder credits veteran players and consistent hard work for his development.

“It’s been a tough but rewarding journey. I started at Gor Mahia Youth after high school and worked my way up,” he shared.

“The past two seasons have been amazing, and I’ve been guided by senior players like (Richard) Odada, (Michael) Olunga, and (Anthony) Akumu. I’m still growing and learning every day.”

As he gears up for CHAN, a strong showing could open doors to professional contracts beyond Kenyan borders, making his CHAN debut a pivotal moment in a career already marked by grit and promise.
