Batoto Ba Mungu have previously found themselves in legal battles with ex-players and the club president is keen to avoid it in future

Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa is optimistic the new strategy his club has employed with regards to player contracts will help the club avoid finding themselves in sticky situations should disagreements arise in future.

Speaking to Pulse Sports after the club announced the appointment of Burundian head coach Francis Harigingo and unveiled 17 new players to help the club in their Premier League campaign for the forthcoming season, the Congolese revealed that the new strategy would put all parties involved in win-win situation in future.

The club have found themselves embroiled in legal battles with former players over breach of contract in the past and Kalekwa is keen to avoid this.

“If you look, we have made two different changes. The lengths of the player contracts we have issued depend on how they serve us. No one wants to have a player who is not giving good service,” Kalekwa said.

“We have come up with a strategy. If for example you want to go to another team or you are not giving us what we want, we give you room to arrange your exit early. For example, we give you a notice of two months while we continue playing you as you go and look for another challenge.”

Meanwhile, the outspoken president believes that the club have what it takes to stand a chance of winning a first FKF Premier League title since their famous win in their debut campaign in 2009.

The club signed Haringingo on a two-year deal, replacing David Ouma, who was appointed the club's new sporting director.

The Burundian coach had considerable success during his time in Rwanda with Mukura Victory Sports, Police FC, Kiyovu Sports and Rayon Sports, and Kalekwa believes he can carry on with that trend of success at the Batoto Ba Mungu.

“Considering the appointments we have made and the signings we have done, I believe everything is okay. We are on the same page and I believe that things will be different this season compared to last season,” Kalekwa said.

“We have brought in new players who are strong. A strong technical bench as well. We have a good mix of youth and experience to achieve what we want.”
