Shabana Silence Ulinzi to End Five-Match Winless Run and Ease Pressure on Coach Peter Okidi

Shabana FC secured their first win after a five-game winless run following a 1-0 victory against Ulinzi Stars at Ulinzi Complex on Sunday.

Shabana FC snapped a five-game winless run when they beat Ulinzi Stars 1-0 to record their third FKF Premier League win of the season.

The Glamour Boys needed just 16 minutes to go ahead when Mark Okola headed home at Ulinzi Complex and it proved to be the only goal of the contest.

Shabana thought they had scored the second after 23 minutes through Ezekiah Omuri but the referee waved his flag for offside.

Peter Okidi’s team went to the break leading 1-0 and after the interval, the tactician made a couple of substitutions with Dunson Kiprono the first to come on, replacing Bronson Nsubuga, before Daddy Odoyo later replaced Keith Imbali.

Kiprono nearly had an immediate impact as he saw his effort hit the woodwork although there were not many chances of note in the game.

Where Does Victory Leave Shabana?

The Glamour Boys’ bid to extend their lead was not fruitful but they ended the game with a cause for concern when Omuri was stretchered off late on after sustaining a nock.

Victory is a big relief for Okidi, who had increasingly come under pressure from fans, over their poor run of form that saw them pick just two points from a possible 15.

What makes it better for Tore Bobe is that the leading pack have also dropped points and with their win, they are up to seventh on the table with 11 points from eight matches, just four behind leaders Kakamega Homeboyz, who drew 1-1 at home to Murang’a Seal.

Shabana will now head into the international break high on confidence, hoping to turn it around when they resume, with a match against Murang’a Seal on November 23.
