Shabana Gate Collections Suffer Sharp Dip Despite Passionate Home Support

AFC Leopards secured a 2-1 comeback win over Shabana, inflicting a third straight home loss as home gate collections dropped significantly.

Shabana FC have disclosed the gate takings from their midweek Kenya Premier League encounter against AFC Leopards yesterday, revealing a gross revenue of Ksh 631,900.

The figure, collected from the passionate supporters who thronged the Gusii Stadium, represents a significant contract and dip from the club's previous home fixture.

In their match against Mathare United on Sunday, 26th October 2025, the club reported a massive gross revenue of KSh 1,197,000. This means the club saw an almost 47% drop in revenue between the two home games, despite the high-profile nature of the clash with Ingwe.

Despite the sharp financial decline, the club was quick to acknowledge the fans who turned up in force, creating a vibrant sea of red and white in the stands. In an official statement, the club thanked the "Tore Bobe" faithful for their unwavering loyalty.

“Shabana FC vs AFC Leopards SC Ticket Sales: We collected a gross revenue of Ksh 631,900. Not the result your support deserved, but we promise to bounce back. It was great seeing the stadium painted red and white 🔴⚪. Thank you for the love and support. Kind regards, Shabana FC,” the club wrote.

A Familiar Disappointment on the Pitch

The club's statement alluded to the "result your support deserved," which was yet another painful home defeat for the fans.

The atmosphere at Gusii Stadium was electric as Shabana drew first blood in only the 10th minute via Austine Odongo, sparking wild celebrations.

The hosts held onto their lead for most of the match, battling to end a losing streak that has plagued their home form. However, the visitors, AFC Leopards, staged a determined second-half comeback.

Ingwe's persistence paid off in the 72nd minute when substitute Julius Masaba provided a brilliant assist for captain Victor Omune, who drew his side level.

The equalising goal subdued the home crowd, setting the stage for a tense finale. The comeback was sealed in the 88th minute when James Kinyanjui’s dangerous, curling corner kick caused confusion in the Shabana box and was turned into the net by a Shabana player for a heartbreaking own goal.

Mounting Pressure and a Missing Piece

The 2-1 defeat is Shabana’s third straight loss at Gusii Stadium, following recent defeats to Posta Rangers and Mathare United.

The team is now four games without a win, a worrying trend that is piling pressure on coach Peter Okidi and his technical bench to find solutions.

For AFC Leopards, the victory marks their second consecutive win and their first league victory over Shabana since the Kisii-based side returned to the KPL. The win propels them to fifth on the log, extending their unbeaten run to five matches.

The context of Shabana's previous earnings makes the financial dip more apparent.

The KSh 1,197,000 collected against Mathare United came from tickets priced at VVIP KSh 1,000, VIP KSh 500, and regular KSh 200, highlighting the massive fan support the club can command.

However, the team's current struggles on the pitch seem directly correlated to the absence of key playmaker Brian Michira.

The midfielder limped off injured against Tusker while Shabana was leading 1-0—a game they went on to draw.

Since his injury, the team has lost all three matches he has missed, suggesting his absence is a critical factor in their sudden loss of form, which may be affecting both morale and fan turnout.
