Leopards dropped points in a closely contested match against Sofapaka remaining eighth on the league table.

AFC Leopards fought back to hold Sofapaka to a 1-1 draw in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League match at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Sofapaka started strongly and took the lead in the opening minute with Rodgers Kipkemboi getting past Ingwe's defense to send the ball into the back of the net.

The Batoto ba Mungu should have added to their advantage in the opening quarter of the match, with Darius Msagha heading an effort against the post, while Jacob Onyango also forced another fine save from Levis Opiyo.

Leopards found their footing in the latter stages of the first half, as Kayci Odhiambo went close with an improvised volley from a left-flank cross, before Victor Omune saw a low effort from the edge of the box saved by Sofapaka goalkeeper Evans Omondi.

Gitego was presented with two opportunities in the closing stages of the first half, drawing a save out of Omondi with a strike from range on 45 minutes after shooting wide of the right post from inside the area three minutes earlier.

There was a flurry of chances at both ends after the restart as the two teams vied for control in the second half.

Victor Omune steered a header wide of the right post from Keneddy Odhiambos' cross on 48 minutes before Thomas Kakire forced Opiyo into a save with a shot from inside the box four minutes later.

Evans Omondi was then called into action to keep out Boniface Kweyu's effort from range at 56 minutes, but he was beaten just moments later by Victor Omune, who made it 1-1.

Musagha came close to restoring Sofapaka lead ten minutes later, but he saw his 20-yard free-kick acrobatically saved by the fingertips of Opiyo.

The game fell into a bit of a lull thereafter, with neither team offering much in attack, especially after Sofapaka had been reduced to ten men in the 73rd minute.

Ingwe were the better of the two sides, but not by much and created the final chance of the game in the 85th minute when Bakari found space inside the box and skied his 16-yard shot inches over the crossbar.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw leaving Leopards stranded in eighth place on the table with 35 points while Sofapaka remained in 15th position with 25 points.
