Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry still believes the fight for the FKF Premier League title will go down to the wire despite his side opening up an eight-point lead with nine games to go.
K’Ogalo were forced to settle for a goalless draw against Kakamega Homeboyz on Saturday which denied them an opportunity to take a 10-point lead following earlier defeats to Tusker FC and Bandari, who are the other teams with a chance of catching them.
Gor Mahia should have scored at least twice in the first half when Benson Omala and Shariff Musa missed from close range but McKinstry was still satisfied with the point, which left his side on 51 points from 25 matches.

Gor Mahia miss chance to open 10-point lead after dour draw with Kakamega Homeboyz
Gor Mahia warmed up for the Mashemeji derby with a goalless draw against Kakamega Homeboyz which saw them open an eight-point lead at the top of the standings.
“Anytime we play against Homeboyz, it’s always a tough, physical game, more like the old school and we enjoyed the game. We created the first few chances but we were slow to start,” McKinstry told Azam TV.
“We had the better chances in the first half and Shariff Musa in the second half should have scored. We are disappointed we did not take all three points but it is an extra one on the board.”
The Gor Mahia coach says while being eight points ahead is a good thing, it is not an enough cushion hence the need to stay at their best.

McKinstry’s men take on bottom placed Nzoia Sugar next weekend, a game in which they are favourites to win, but the tactician is wary of an upset given how close Homeboyz run his team.
“We have more to do, Homeboyz do not have much to play for in the league, they are seventh and could finish between fifth and eighth, but they gave everything which means we have to keep fighting,” he added.
“Any team offered an eight-point lead with nine games to go would take it. So, we go into next game against Nzoia in a good mood.”
