Kenya Police head coach Etienne Ndayiragije praised his players' resilience after securing maximum points against Bandari in the FKF Premier League clash in Mombasa, Friday.

The law enforcers were forced to dig deeper into their heels after a last-gasp goal from midfielder Marvine Nabwire secured the priceless victory, handing pressure to Gor Mahia who won't be in action this weekend following the postponement of the Mashemeji derby that was to be played at the Kasarani Stadium on Sunday.

Nabwire latched onto a cross from Jesse Were and calmly slotted the ball past Farouk Shikhalo to seal the win.

The Burundian tactician emphasized the importance of the result in their title ambitions telling Citizen Digital: “It was a tough match. Bandari were very well organized, but we kept pushing and eventually got the goal we needed. These three points are crucial for our title chase,” said Ndayiragije.

“Every team wants to win. Our focus is to keep winning and see where that takes us.”

The result means that Police opened a five-point gap against defending champions Gor Mahia and K'Ogalo now have a game in hand. The Etienne Ndayiragije-coached side, gunning for their first ever league title, top the standings on 58 points after 30 rounds with four matches left to play.

Gor Mahia are the record league champions having won the title 21 times. They are involved in a tree-way title tussle with former champions Tusker also in the mix.

Police will have to play Gor Mahia in the final match of the season but must first navigate tricky ties against Talanta, Shabana and Kakamega homeboyz. Gor Mahia take on SEAL, Ulinzi Stars, Police and City Stars. The league title might go down to the wire.
