Nasreddine Nabi’s future at Kaizer Chiefs remains uncertain as he reunites with former striker Fiston Mayele amid Yanga return rumours.

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has been spotted in Egypt spending time with his former striker Fiston Mayele as uncertainty continues to loom over his future with the Soweto giants.

The Tunisian tactician, who led Chiefs to their first major trophy in a decade, is currently away from coaching duties while discussions regarding his future remain ongoing.

Nabi’s trip to Egypt comes at a delicate time, with reports suggesting that the coach and Kaizer Chiefs have agreed in principle to part ways following concerns about his eligibility to sit on the bench during the club’s upcoming CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Sources close to the club revealed that Nabi’s coaching qualifications did not meet CAF requirements, forcing the two parties to reconsider their partnership.

As the situation unfolds, the 60-year-old coach has taken advantage of the break to visit family and friends back home and reconnect with familiar faces from his coaching journey. It was during this time that Nabi met up with Mayele, who currently plies his trade for Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Premier League.

“Very happy to see you again, Baba Nabi. Thank you very much for everything,” Mayele shared on Instagram alongside a photo of the pair together.

Nabi, who enjoyed great success with Mayele during their time together at Yanga SC in Tanzania, warmly responded: “Very happy to have seen my son again.”

The heartfelt exchange between the two quickly spread across social media, fueling speculation about Nabi’s next move and his possible return to East African football.

Reports from South Africa suggest that Nabi and Kaizer Chiefs are finalising contractual details to end their partnership amicably.

The Tunisian’s tenure at Naturena, though short, was impactful — having guided the Amakhosi to the Nedbank Cup triumph last season, ending a 10-year trophy drought and restoring hope among the club’s passionate supporters.

However, Nabi’s potential absence from the CAF Confederation Cup bench has proven to be a significant stumbling block.

Insiders claim that the club’s management, keen to ensure full compliance with CAF regulations, has opted to explore alternative coaching options while negotiating a smooth exit for the veteran tactician.

As the Chiefs deliberations continue, fresh reports from Tanzania have emerged linking Nabi with a sensational return to his former club, Yanga SC.

Linked with Yanga Return Amid Folz Pressure

According to Tanzanian media, Yanga’s current coach Romain Folz has come under mounting pressure after a mixed start to the new season.

Despite winning three of his four games in all competitions, fans and club officials are reportedly dissatisfied with his tactics and style of play.

This has opened the door for Nabi’s possible comeback. The Tunisian is said to have been in Dar es Salaam this week, where he claimed to be attending to "private business.”

Local reports, however, insist that Yanga’s management are seriously considering reappointing the coach who guided them to back-to-back league titles and a historic CAF Confederation Cup final appearance in 2023.

Nabi remains a revered figure among Yanga supporters, having delivered four trophies in two years and instilled a dominant, attacking brand of football.
