Kenyan football fans gave varying views regarding Gor Mahia’s decision to mount a guard of honour for Kenya Police despite recent claims that K’Ogalo would snub the pre-match ritual.
After weeks of speculation among their fans over whether it was necessary to give Kenya Police a guard of honour, Gor Mahia players displayed an act of sportsmanship by doing so.
Gor Mahia took on newly-crowned champions Police in the final match of the season at Ulinzi Complex and the players mounted a guard of honour for their opponents as they walked onto the pitch for the last time this campaign.
That ended any discussions as K’Ogalo showed respect to the team that had dislodged them from the top of the tree after their back-to-back league wins in 2022-23 and 2023-24.

Dethroned Champions Gor Mahia Plot Swift Rebuild
Dethroned FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia have begun plans to reinforce their squad
“Congratulations Kenya police FC. Though, KPL league title no longer excites Gor Mahia. Gor Mahia fans would only celebrate Cecafa trophies and CAF championships titles. Gor Mahia must rise and match our peers like Al Ahly, Simba, Yanga, Esperance de Tunis, Zamalek, Horoya of Guinea, El Merreikh, Al Hilal, TP Mazembe, Orlando pirates, Asante Kotoko, Wydad Casablanca, RS Berkane etc,” this fan reminded Gor Mahia.
“Of course, you've shown what we call sportsmanship. Congratulations to you, the Green Army,” another fan remarked.
Some Fans Were Not Impressed By Guard of Honour
But not everyone connected to K’Ogalo was happy to see the guard of honour.
“Kenneth Muguna gets his revenge. Look away, K’Ogalo fans,” observed another fan.

Millions Awaiting Kenya Police After FKF Premier League Win
Kenya Police are looking forward to more cash incentives following their surprise run to the FKF Premier League title win.
“Machosi [tears], hard to stomach that guard,” said another Gor Mahia supporter.
“Proudly sponsored by Shabana FC. Hii ndio inabamba, piga makofi buana,” another one commented.
“My team Gor Mahia has gone way too low! Gor represents Wuon Timbe! You don't mount a guard of honour for such a small team! It is not a must! The only team of whom we should mount a guard of honour for is our long-time equals AFC Leopards or Tusker, formerly Kenya Breweries,” another Gor fan said.
Gor Mahia were eclipsed by Police last week, the law enforcers sealing the title with a match to spare.
