The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has officially announced a change in date and venue for the highly anticipated first leg of the 2025/26 Mashemeji Derby, which will see rivals Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards face off once again.

Initially slated for November 30, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, the fixture has been moved forward. The derby will now take place a day earlier, on Saturday, November 29, at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Mashemeji Derby: Why the Gor Mahia vs AFC Leopards Match Was Postponed

The rescheduling was necessary to accommodate Nairobi United's CAF Confederation Cup group stage match, which is scheduled for the Moi International Sports Centre on Sunday, November 30.

Nairobi United will be up against AS Maniema Union from the Democratic Republic of Congo. They have already kick-started their group stage campaign with a 3-0 loss to Wydad AC in a match played in Casablanca, Morocco, on Sunday, November 23.

Making their debut in the continental group stages, Nairobi United will be eager to secure their first group stage win. However, the match will not be a walk in the park since AS Maniema are fresh from stunning Azam FC 2-0.

Mashemeji Derby: Analysing Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards' Forms

Gor Mahia enter the derby in formidable form, sitting atop the Football Kenya Federation Premier League table with 19 points.

The 21-time champions are currently on a seven-match unbeaten streak, having recorded six wins and one draw. They have the much-needed confidence going to the match, owing to their recent success at the SportPesa League monthly awards.

Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor was named Coach of the Month, and Shariff Musa won Player of the Month. Furthermore, Gor Mahia hold a strong recent record in the derby, remaining undefeated in the last four encounters against their rivals with two wins and two draws.

In contrast, AFC Leopards, known as ‘Ingwe,’ are struggling for form. They are currently on a three-match winless run, consisting of two draws and one loss, and will be desperate to secure their first victory over Gor Mahia since May 2023. Their recent match resulted in a 1-1 draw against Kariobangi Sharks.
