An unfortunate own goal in the seventh minute by Tusker's Collins Odhiambo was enough to give Gor Mahia all the three points in their league clash that took place at Kasarani.

A costly own goal by Tusker was enough to give Gor Mahia all the three points during their 100th league meeting that took place at the Kasarani Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Collins Odhiambo’s backpass towards keeper Brian Opondo resulted in an unfortunate scenario that saw the Harambee Stars keeper fail to control it properly, and it now means Tusker have now lost their second consecutive league fixture, while Gor Mahia extend their lead at the top of the table.

First Half

The record champions took the lead early in the 8th minute in unusual fashion when Tusker right-back Collins Ochieng mishit a back pass that rolled past his own goalkeeper, gifting Gor Mahia the opener.

Gor Mahia enjoyed good spells of possession, with Austine Odhiambo coming close shortly before halftime after his long-range strike drifted just inches wide of the post.

Tusker grew into the game and created meaningful chances. At the half-hour mark, Denis Oalo drove forward and unleashed a powerful effort, forcing the Gor Mahia keeper into a save for a corner.

Just before the interval, Cliff Oruko had a shot blocked after cutting in from the flank, and Vin followed up with a long-range attempt that the goalkeeper struggled to collect but ultimately saved.

Second Half

Tusker boss  Charles Okere decided to make three changes at the break, bringing on Erick Kapaito, Curtis Wekesa and Yakeen Mutheli for Oruko, Thomas Omole and Dennis Oguta respectively as he sought to restore parity.

However, for much of the opening 15 minutes of the second half, both sides struggled to create inroads in the other side’s final thirds. With Gor Mahia looking to restore the lead , Fidel Origa and Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw would come on for Alpha Onyango and Bryson Wangai.

However, the game effectively became a damp squib, and in the end, it was Gor Mahia that grabbed all the three points to extend their lead at the top of the table to 19 points, while Tusker remain seventh on 12 points.
