Gor Mahia enjoyed a fine October- November cycle, which saw them go unbeaten in their last six league games, and it has earned both head coach and forward the inagural monthly accolade.

Gor Mahia completed a historic double on Friday  after winning both the inaugural SportPesa League Player of the Month and Coach of the Month awards, capping off a perfect October for the record Kenyan champions.

Shariff Musa, who recently made his Harambee Stars debut against Equatorial Guinea, beat strong competition from AFC Leopards defender Vincent Mahiga and teammates Enock Morrison and Michael Kibwage to clinch the maiden player’s gong. He received a customized trophy alongside a KSh 50,000 cash prize.

The winger enjoyed a standout month, registering a crucial goal and assist as Gor Mahia maintained a flawless run with victories over KCB, Posta Rangers and Mathare United. Musa becomes the first-ever recipient of the award since SportPesa officially took over the league’s title sponsorship for the 2025/26 campaign.

Akonnor Best Coach For October

Head coach Charles Akonnor completed the club’s clean sweep by winning the SportPesa League Coach of the Month award.

The former Ghana national team boss led Gor Mahia to three wins out of three, guiding the side to a 1-0 win over KCB at Dandora Stadium, a  commanding 3-0 victory against Posta Rangers at Nyayo Stadium and a 2-0 triumph over Mathare United at Kasarani

October marks Akonnor’s first full month in charge, with the tactician steering K’Ogalo to the top end of the table and maintaining their status as early title contenders.

The introduction of the SportPesa League monthly awards follows a new partnership with local analytics firm Tisini, aimed at providing deeper performance insights to elevate league competitiveness.

Shortlisted candidates are selected based on objective performance data, while fan voting contributes 20% of the final decision — an initiative designed to increase supporter engagement.

With both player and coach accolades heading to Gor Mahia, the 21-time champions have signaled their intent early in the season, setting a high bar for the months ahead.
