Rashford has completed a surprise loan to Barcelona, hinting at deep frustrations with Manchester United in a revealing first interview.

Marcus Rashford says his move to Barcelona feels like coming home after sealing a season-long loan switch from Manchester United.

The 27-year-old forward joins the La Liga champions on an initial 12-month loan deal, with the option to make the move permanent for £30.3 million (€35 million) in 2026.

The England international becomes the first English player to sign for the Catalan giants since Gary Lineker in 1986, ending his long association with his boyhood club amid growing tensions behind the scenes.

Rashford had not featured for United since December 2024 after being dropped by manager Ruben Amorim and spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.

"I'm very excited," Rashford told Barcelona's YouTube channel.

"It's a club where people's dreams come true, they win big prizes."

His Barcelona debut comes after months of uncertainty, disciplinary issues, and a dramatic drop in form at Old Trafford.

Despite being one of five players to ask to leave United earlier this summer, the scale and nature of Rashford’s departure still stunned many fans.

"What the club stands for means a lot for me,” Rashford added.

“I feel like I'm at home and a big factor in my choice to come here is because it is a family place and a good place for good players to showcase their skills.”

The forward also highlighted the influence of Barcelona boss Hansi Flick in his decision to join.

"Another factor is because the conversations I had with [Hansi Flick] were positive. What he did last season was terrific... it shows me everything I thought I knew about the club and it's everything I wished."

A Long Goodbye to Manchester

Rashford's problems at United began well before Amorim’s arrival.

After signing a five-year extension in 2023 following a 30-goal season, he managed just eight goals in 43 appearances the following year.

He was dropped for key games due to disciplinary breaches, including missing training and going out partying shortly after a heavy home defeat.

Amorim’s comments in December were especially damning.

After excluding Rashford from the Manchester derby squad, he claimed he would rather put his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach on the bench than pick a player who "doesn't give the maximum every day".

Despite the public criticisms and decline in form, Rashford maintained a respectful tone when speaking about his former club.

“I don’t have anything bad to say as it has been an important part not just of my career but my life, so I was grateful for the opportunity,” he said during his Barcelona unveiling.

United are expected to save up to £15 million in wages following the move, which sees Barcelona cover the entirety of his salary after Rashford agreed to take a pay cut.

Now training with his new teammates, Rashford is expected to feature in Barcelona’s pre-season tour of Japan. His focus is firmly on the future.

“I want to win the biggest trophies and I feel like Barcelona is a huge club in the football world, so it is the perfect place.”

He concluded, “This is a historic club and they are known for winning the biggest prizes. I am here to help the club do that. It is a dream of mine.”
