Manchester United have annoyed Premier League rivals Newcastle after their latest move regarding RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

Manchester United are reportedly attempting to hijack Newcastle United's move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

The 22-year-old Slovenian international, valued at £70 million, has been in discussions with Newcastle, with both sides aiming for a verbal agreement.

However, according to The Sun, Sky Sports Germany reports that Manchester United have also entered the fray, initiating talks with Sesko's representatives. The decision now rests with the player and his agents.

Leipzig are demanding £70 million for Sesko, who joined them from RB Salzburg in 2023. He has since made 87 appearances for the German club, including Champions League matches, and has earned 41 caps for Slovenia.

This move comes after Manchester United's recent acquisitions of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a combined £133.5 million, bolstering their attacking options.

Newcastle's pursuit of Sesko stems from the potential departure of their current striker, Alexander Isak. Isak has reportedly expressed his desire to leave the club this summer and is currently absent from Newcastle's pre-season tour, officially due to a "minor thigh injury."

Teammate Bruno Guimaraes addressed the rumors linking Isak with a move to Liverpool, stating, "He's a top striker. His record over the last three seasons speaks for itself. He's a top player. But as far as I know, he's only staying behind because of his injury, for treatment with the club."

Reports suggest Isak has been offered a lucrative £32 million-a-year deal from Saudi Arabia, but his preference is reportedly a move to Liverpool. Newcastle previously rejected Liverpool's initial £120 million bid for Isak, a potential British-record transfer fee. It is now understood that Isak may submit a formal transfer request to force a move to the reigning Premier League champions.

Sesko garnered significant attention during the European Championships last summer, impressing with his pace and power while playing for Slovenia. This led to widespread interest from several top European clubs.

Despite being linked with Arsenal in January, Sesko opted to remain with RB Leipzig, where he netted 13 goals in 33 league appearances last season. However, a summer transfer remains a possibility.

Sesko's key strengths lie in his physicality, speed, and powerful long-range shooting. He thrives in transitional play, utilizing space to attack effectively. However, he needs to improve his consistency in front of goal.

There are also concerns about his potential one-dimensionality in the final third, relying heavily on space to score, which may not suit Manchester United's style of play.
