Liverpool Legend Warns Reds Are in ‘Crisis Time’ After Fourth Straight Premier League Defeat

The Reds have stumbled into a worrying run of defeats, prompting serious questions about Arne Slot’s tactics and team balance.

Jamie Carragher has made a damning assessment of Liverpool’s current form declaring that the Premier League champions are in “crisis time” following their fourth consecutive defeat under manager Arne Slot.

The Reds’ 3-2 loss to Brentford on Saturday extended their miserable run, with defeats also coming against Chelsea, Manchester United, and Crystal Palace.

The result leaves Liverpool five points behind leaders Arsenal and already matching the total number of league defeats they suffered throughout the entirety of last season.

Just five months ago, Slot’s side stormed to the title with trademark intensity and control, but that same dominance has evaporated, replaced instead by defensive fragility and lapses in concentration.

Despite a staggering £446 million summer investment in new players, the Dutchman’s team have conceded nine goals in their last four games and look a shadow of the outfit that lifted the trophy in May. For Carragher, the issues run far deeper than a simple dip in form — he believes the champions have lost the physical edge that once made them so feared.

“I don’t think they’ve got enough [physicality],” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“To lose four games in a row for a team like Brentford, or a team battling relegation, would be a disaster. To see the champions lose four games in a row, with the expenditure in the summer, I think we’re in crisis time. There will be a lot of serious questions being asked of everyone, the playing staff, the manager.”

Slot Under Pressure as Liverpool Struggle for Answers

Arne Slot’s debut season in English football is quickly turning into a test of resilience. The Dutchman admitted after the defeat that his side had “no answer” to Brentford’s physical and direct style — a theme that has plagued Liverpool throughout October.

“It is disappointing again,” Slot reflected.

“We hoped if we won a game during the week, of course you hope for a better result. I was also hoping and expecting a better performance. This was far from what we are used to.”

Liverpool were undone by goals from Dango Ouattara, Kevin Schade, and Igor Thiago at the Gtech Community Stadium, despite late strikes from Milos Kerkez and Mohamed Salah that only added respectability to the scoreline. Slot branded it “the worst performance of my tenure” and conceded that opponents have “found a very good strategy to play against us.”

Defensively, the champions have been alarmingly vulnerable, particularly from long throws and set-pieces — weaknesses that Brentford exploited clinically.

“Teams know which strategy to play against us,” Slot admitted post-match, underscoring a worrying trend that has seen Liverpool bullied in the air and on second balls.

Salah Ends Drought But Issues Remain

While Mohamed Salah’s late goal ended a six-game drought, the Egyptian forward remains short of his usual sharpness. New arrivals Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz are still adapting to Slot’s system, leaving the team searching for cohesion in attack as well as stability in defence.

It was a landmark evening for Brentford under new boss Keith Andrews, whose side displayed the aggression, organisation, and work rate that Liverpool are struggling to rediscover. The result also handed Brentford their first-ever home league win over the Reds in the Premier League era.

Slot now faces a crucial week, beginning with a Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace on Wednesday before league clashes with Aston Villa and Manchester City.
