Kenya U20 star Faiz Opande debuted for Huntsville City FC on Sunday night showing promise despite a 0-1 loss to Chattanooga.

Kenya U20 international Faiz Opande made his eagerly anticipated debut for Huntsville City FC in their narrow 0-1 defeat to Chattanooga in the MLS Next Pro league.

Opande, who joined the team just four days ago was introduced in the final eight minutes of the match showcasing his skills on a new stage.

Opande's transfer to the American club follows an impressive spell at Elite Falcons FC where his performances in seven appearances were pivotal in the team’s promotion to Division One.

His recent journey has been nothing short of meteoric having had a trial with English Premier League side Crystal Palace and a stint in the United Arab Emirates.

Matt Cairns, the Director of Soccer Operations at Huntsville City, could not hide his excitement about Opande's capabilities during his unveiling.

"We are excited to have Faiz join our group. His versatility in midfield and defense will be a great asset for the season ahead. Our fans will enjoy his energy, tenacity, and ability to pick a pass in the midfield," Cairns stated.

Despite the team's loss, Opande's late introduction brought a dynamic shift to the midfield, displaying his ability to adapt quickly to the higher pace and physicality of American soccer.

Opande has not only been a significant player at the club level but has also represented Kenya in the 2020 CECAFA U17 Championships and is a current member of the nation’s U20 squad.

Huntsville City FC, which serves as the reserve team for Nashville SC, competes in MLS Next Pro, aiming to develop young talents like Opande.

Looking forward, Huntsville City will enjoy a bye week before returning to action against Philadelphia Union II on May 5.

Fans are eager to see more of Opande whose debut has sparked optimism for what lies ahead in the season.

The match will take place at Subaru Park at 11pm East Africa time where Opande will seek to solidify his place in the team and impress the Huntsville faithful.
