Here are our Gor Mahia player ratings following their 1-0 win over sworn rivals AFC Leopards

Gor Mahia had the last laugh on Sunday as they managed to upset AFC Leopards 1-0  in an eventful Mashemeji derby that took place at the Nyayo National Stadium.

This was despite the fact they had to labor for 60 minutes with 10 men. Nonetheless, the players put in a spirited display to get all the three points.

These are the Gor Mahia players’ ratings following their monumental win that will go a long way in helping them cement their FKF Premier League title defense status:

Kevin Omondi 2

Kevin Omondi put his teammates in trouble when he got sent off in the 31st minute when he ran off his line and attempted to sweep the ball before Victor Omune would find himself in a position to cause trouble on the counter attack.

The red card appeared controversial as on first sight, Omondi did not appear to make contact with Omune, but television replays showed otherwise. Even so, getting sent off after just 30 minutes left his teammates plenty of work to do.

Rooney Onyango - 8

Rooney Onyango portrayed a lot of tactical intelligence occupying several positions throughout the game.

He constantly rotated with Musa Masika and Sharrif Musa down the right flank with Ingwe keen to create overloads down their right flank throughout the first 30 minutes.

His range of passing was a joy to behold, with his crossfield pass to Bryson Wangai in the 17th minute a classic example of his dominating display. Even when they got reduced to ten men, he showed alot of positional discipline, choosing when to attack and when to defend.

Sylvester Owino  7

Stepping in for the injured Emery Bayisenge , Joshua Onyango dominated his area alongside Kennedy Onyango, making sure to deal with all balls down his area, especially when Ingwe went direct after being reduced to 10 men. He produced an assured display.

Joshua Onyango -8

Just like Owino, Onyango looked solid stepping in for Kennedy Owino, and was commanding and no-nonsense, keeping Victor Omune and then Arthur Gitego at bay.

Geoffrey ‘Simiti’ Ochieng’ 7

Ochieng’ was energetic all game and was impressive in particular with his underlapping runs when Bryson Wangai stretched the right flank.

Alpha Onyango - 6

Offered presence as the deepest lying midfielder all game before being substituted, and covered the ground well.

Austin Odhiambo -9

The man of the match. Scored the only goal after forcing a turnover of possession and had the freedom to roam around  all game. He was the hub of the team before being subbed off.

Bryson Wangai - 6

Stretched the pitch from the left flank well and did create a couple of opportunities for himself. Did however miss some questionable open chances.

Musa Masika - 4

Unlucky to have been subbed off after the keeper was sent off, so had not played much to influence the outcome of the game.

Benson Omala -6

Contributed well towards Gor’s goal when he pressed Levis Opiyo on his front side, allowing Austin Odhiambo to capitalise on the keeper’s blindside.

Sharrif Musa - 6

Sharrif Musa helped give AFC Leopards all sorts of problems before Omondi was sent off with his directness and pace in behind from the right flank, and did well with his defensive duties when down to 10 men.

Substitutes: Caleb Omondi -9

Another man-of-the-match contender. Caleb Omondi was imperious in the air, Commanded the area well, punched every long ball that came his way, and oozed calmness throughout. Played an integral part in their win.

Earnest Wendo - 5

Wendo was subbed on to see out the game and held his own well.

Rodgers Ouma -N/A

Boniface Omondi -N/A
