Celebrated brothers put their golfing skills to the test in the 5th edition of the recently concluded Alumni Golf Challenge tournament held at the Vetlab Sports Club Nairobi.

Legendary former Kenya 7s  brothers Humphrey Kayange and Collins Injera took part in the 5th Edition of the highly anticipated Alumni Golf Challenge which took place at the Vetlab Sports Club on Friday, drawing over 120 participants representing 80 high schools from across the country.

The brothers were representing their former high schools, St. Peters Mumias Boys and Vihiga Boys high school respectively.

Eager to showcase their golfing skills having hung their rugby boots, the tournament was a chance for both to unleash their “inner Tiger Woods” after already sealing their places in the history of World 7s rugby.

Kayange, who was representing St. Peters High School finished 15th, accumulating a stable ford point of 34, six points behind the highest player and a handicap of 21. Not bad at all, considering he put some pro golfers like John Mburu and Robinson Owiti to shame.

As for his younger brother, Injera, things were not as plain sailing, but he did finish a respectable 44th out of a pool of 70 golfers, registering 28 points, but with a respectable handicap of 25.

Golfers from diverse backgrounds showcased their skills, creating a thrilling and competitive atmosphere on the greens.

The event commenced in the early morning, with the final group concluding their round just before 6:20 pm, after a full day of challenging golf.

Kenya Golf Union Chairman, Mr. Njani Ndiritu in attendance, lending his support and prestige to the event.

The highlight of the evening came as Engineer Fabian Kebo, representing Nanyuki High School in Laikipia County, emerged as the Overall Winner.

Kebo displayed exceptional skill and determination, accumulating a stable ford point of 39 with a handicap of 21.

For his outstanding achievement, he was honored with a Seed Bursary fund worth one hundred thousand Kenyan shillings for needy students in his adopted former school, a twenty thousand Kenya shilling worth of Newspaper from Nation Media Group, two return air tickets from Kenya Airways, a holiday getaway from Steri Tours, and an array of other valuable gifts.

In other major award categories, Chrispin Owuor, an alumnus of Kabete Vetlab Secondary School in Nairobi, claimed victory in the Men's category with a stable ford point of 38 and a handicap of 5.

The Women's category was triumphed by Rebecca Njui, an alumna of Ngara Girls High School in Nairobi, who scored 31 points with a handicap of 26.

Acknowledging the collective efforts of schools and their alumni, Moi Forces Academy secured the Most Represented School Award, having the highest number of participants in the tournament.

The Alumni Golf Challenge, organized by Alumnus Challenge, continues to grow in popularity, with plans already underway for the next event.

Alumnus Challenge is a Kenyan philanthropic initiative aimed at igniting an alumni movement in the education space, addressing the unequal access to quality education for marginalized and financially-disadvantaged students.

Through golf tournaments and other fundraising efforts, Alumnus Challenge raises funds for bursaries and resources to support underprivileged students at alumni's former high schools.

The 5th Edition Alumni Golf Challenge serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and philanthropy within the alumni community.

With each edition, the event strengthens the bonds between former students, promotes healthy competition, and provides meaningful support to deserving students through various prizes and bursaries.

As the Alumni Golf Challenge continues to make a positive impact, it embodies the collective dedication to education and the empowerment of future generations.
