With just months to go before the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) kicks off in August, the Kenyan Ministry of Sports has provided a fresh update on the readiness of the country's flagship stadiums.
Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums, both undergoing major renovations since 2023, are now in the final stages of completion.
These facilities are central to Kenya’s role in co-hosting the continental tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

Speaking during a briefing, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya assured the public and stakeholders that the facilities would be ready on time.
“We have agreed with all contractors that the handover of the keys will be on the 25th of this month. That includes Nyayo Stadium, Kasarani Stadium, and the two designated training grounds – Ulinzi Complex and Police Sacco Stadium. Everyone is working toward that deadline," Mvurya stated as quoted by Nation Sports.

The update follows weeks of anxiety over Kenya's preparedness, especially after Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspectors expressed cautious optimism in recent assessments.
While they acknowledged visible progress, the inspectors highlighted areas that required urgent attention if the venues were to meet international hosting standards.
This spurred a flurry of activity at the sites, with contractors racing against time to meet the promised timelines.
Despite the initial concerns, Mvurya's announcement is seen as a sign of confidence that the country is on track in its preparations.
