Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca has wielded the axe on four unwanted stars after excluding them from the FIFA Club World Cup squad travelling to the United States.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has left four players, with a combined transfer value of £145 million, out of his squad for the upcoming Club World Cup.
The Blues begin their campaign next Monday against LAFC, followed by group stage matches against Flamengo and ES Tunis but Djordje Petrovic, Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix, and Axel Disasi have all been excluded from the traveling party.
This decision echoes Maresca's stance last summer when 13 players were relegated to training away from the first team. The four omitted players all spent at least the latter half of the 2024-25 season on loan.

Petrovic's absence is particularly surprising, given his strong performances at Strasbourg and Chelsea's current goalkeeping situation.

‘Not The Right Player’ - Manchester United Legend Not Convinced By Viktor Gyokeres
A Manchester United legend has elicited debate after claiming the club should steer clear of striker Viktor Gyokeres as he 'cannot shine' in the Premier League.
Their combined transfer fees represent a significant investment: Petrovic (£14m), Sterling (£50m), Felix (£42.7m), and Disasi (£38.7m).

Meanwhile, Andrey Santos, also on loan at Strasbourg last season, has been included, along with new signings Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, and Mamadou Sarr. Santos appears to be an exception to the rule, as other loan players have been sidelined. Chelsea view the Club World Cup as an extension of the 2024-25 season.
Sterling struggled for regular starts at Arsenal, Disasi was a rotational player at Aston Villa, and Felix endured a difficult loan spell at AC Milan, even being labeled "useless" by Italian journalist Fabio Ravezzani.
Chelsea's attempts to add Jamie Gittens and Mike Maignan to their squad for the American trip were unsuccessful.

Manchester United Blow? Premier League Rivals Join Race For Bryan Mbeumo
Manchester United rusk losing out on Bryan Mbeumo if they do not act quickly as another Premier League club has emerged with serious interest in the Brentford forward.
Borussia Dortmund rejected Chelsea's second offer of £42m for Gittens, with the German club reportedly seeking closer to £55m. Chelsea also declined to meet AC Milan's asking price for goalkeeper Maignan.
The second summer transfer window opens on Monday, allowing any subsequent signings to be registered for the Club World Cup knockout stages.
