The in-demand forward's contract expries on Friday 30 June, after which he will become a free agent.

With each passing day, a new club joins the lengthy list of teams lining up for the services of highly converted Harambee Stars skipper Michael Olunga.

In the last 24 hours, English Premier League regulars Everton have opened discussions at board level about signing the 29-year-old who is now one of the most sought-after forwards in the sphere.

After surviving relegation by the skin of their teeth, needing a final-day victory over Bournemouth, the Liverpool-based club are looking to add more firepower upfront.

Everton had a disastrous season by their lofty standards with their top scorer in the just concluded season, Dwight McNeil managing a paltry seven goals.

The tally is dwarfed by Olunga’s astronomical numbers posted last season after plundering 39 goals in 37 games en route to his maiden Qatar Stars League title since joining Al Duhail in 2021.

The head honchos at Everton are lining up a move for Olunga to solve their goal-scoring woes that saw them net just 34 goals, five less than what the former Gor Mahia forward managed.

“Everton haven’t had a 40-goal-a-season striker since World Cup Golden Boot winner Gary Lineker in 1985/86 but that’s how many times Michael Olunga found the net for his club in 2022/23.

“Superstar captain of the Kenyan national team with 22 goals in 49 internationals, on face value, Olunga seems like something of a potential left-field option for the Blues to solve their scoring woes but the ECHO understands his name has been discussed by those inside Finch Farm,” read part of an article from the Liverpool Echo.

Should the move materialize, Olunga will become only the second Kenyan to grace the English Premier League after Victor Wanyama who turned out for Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.

The move could silence Olunga's detractors who have always claimed that he has been performing well in mediocre leagues and should test himself in one of the European top five leagues.

The former Tusker FC forward has now been linked with Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, Corinthians, Utretch, and now Everton.
