The next port of call for Omanyala is the Diamond League Meeting in Florence, Italy on Friday, June 2.

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has joined other Kenyans in rallying behind Africa 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala who tasted his first 100m defeat at the just-concluded Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, Morocco.

In a pre-race interview, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion had confidently promised that he will not lose any 100m race this season and he was bullish about winning in Rabat.

However, things did not go as planned on Sunday, May 28 as he finished third behind world champion Fred Kerley and South Africa’s Akani Simbine.

His loss came as a shock to many but Olunga showed support to Omanyala with a post on his Twitter account. He said: “More wins to come champ…we are all behind you.”

Omanyala had just come from reigning supreme at the Kip Keino Classic where he won and set a world lead time of 9.84 and was hopeful of maintaining the same momentum.

He, however, did not seem unfazed and promised a better display at the Golden Gala, a Diamond League Meeting in Florence, Italy on Friday, June 2.

In a post on his Twitter page, he said: “Confidence looks like arrogance to people who don't believe in themselves. We shall rise again. Thank you, Rabat, for the memories, see you Florence.”
