Christian Coleman, who trains alongside girlfriend Sha'Carri Richardson at Star Athletics track club, has explained why he believes that training unit is the best in the world.
American sprint star Christian Coleman has revealed why he believes the Star Athletics Track Club in Florida, where he trains under coach Dennis Mitchell is up there with the very best in the world.
Coleman, who signed up with the track club in 2024 after a series of inconsistent results, which also coincided with dating Sha’Carri Richardson, believes the training regimen with the group has enabled him to make marginal improvements despite failing to make the Team USA side for the upcoming Tokyo World Championships.

Coleman on Race Performance and Goals
Reflecting on his fourth-place finish during the Silesia Diamond League classic in Belgium last Friday, the 2019 World 100 meter champion explained how he felt having finished fourth in the 200 meters.
“Felt okay. I haven’t run too many 200s this year, so my plan was really just to execute a good race and use it to prepare me for Zurich next week,” Coleman told the media afterwards.
“ I feel like I did that, but as a competitor, you always want to see your name higher up on the podium. Overall, it was okay.”
Looking ahead, he confirmed his focus is firmly on the Diamond League Final in Zurich and later relay duties in Tokyo:
“Yeah, that’s definitely the plan—try to go to Tokyo and help us win a medal. But first, I’m focused on the Diamond League Championship.
“I feel like I’ve got a really good opportunity there next week, so I’m putting all my chips in and seeing what I can do. Then I’ll reset, refocus, and hopefully join the relay team.”
On competing in Europe, Coleman admitted it comes with mixed feelings:

‘I was Just Confused’ - British Sprinter Discloses How Usain Bolt’s Last Race Left Bitter Taste
Usain Bolt hanged his spikes after the 2017 World Championships in London and a British sprinter has recalled how the Jamaican great’s final race felt weird for his rivals.
“A little bit of both, depending on where you are in your season. For me, I’d much rather be preparing for the World Championships.
“But if you’re coming here to get reps in and improve, then of course you love coming to Europe, getting the experience, traveling, and doing what you love.
“It’s all a blessing regardless. Still, it can feel a bit different when you’re just on the circuit without a major championship on the horizon. But at the end of the day, it’s 100% a blessing to be able to do this and get paid for it—it’s crazy.”
He was most emphatic when speaking about his training unit.
Star Athletics: A Medal Factory
At the 2024 Olympics, the camp produced a lot of medalists. In 2025, several track stars training at the base are on hot form. Melissa Jefferson-Wooden has remained unbeaten throughout 2025 and is favorite to win the gold medal in the women’s 100m race.
Kenny Bednarek has also been on a hot streak of form in 2025, and will be eager to prove a point in Tokyo.
Now Coleman, who is hoping to make the US 4 x 100m men’s relay team for the Tokyo Championships after failing to make any individual event, revealed the factors that make Star Athletics club a special one.
“For sure. I feel like we’re the best training group in the world. It’s nice to know that no matter where you are, you’ve got someone you’re familiar with to train with.
“Of course, having coach there helps, and even when we’re spread out, we still cheer each other on from afar. It’s about representing something bigger than just ourselves.”
