Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo might finally play together for one team in Buenos Aires before the end of 2025.

In what could be a once-in-a-lifetime moment for football fans worldwide, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi might finally play on the same team.

The two legends, who are considered the two greatest players of all time,  could be reunited on the pitch for the farewell match of Argentine icon Carlos Tevez. And this time, not as fierce opponents, but as teammates.

According to ESPN, Tevez, a former Manchester United, Argentina and Manchester City striker, revealed plans to host a farewell game in Buenos Aires.

In an interview with Argentine outlet OLGA, the 40-year-old said he is determined to bring both Messi and Ronaldo to the event—even if it means chasing them down himself.

“Yes, I'm going to do it [farewell game],” Tevez confirmed. “I probably will do it. We just have to figure out when. It's not easy."

“Leo Messi, Cristiano... we’re going to bring them,” he added. “If I have to, I’ll go get them myself. I already have them saved in my WhatsApp.”

Messi, now 37, and Ronaldo, who turns 42 in 2026, last shared the field in January 2023 when Messi’s PSG faced a Riyadh All Stars XI led by Ronaldo. The much-hyped friendly lived up to expectations: Messi scored once, Ronaldo bagged a brace, but PSG edged it 5–4.

That match marked the end of a long wait since their last meeting in La Liga, where the rivalry was at its peak—Messi representing Barcelona and Ronaldo starring for Real Madrid.

Between them, they faced off in 36 El Clásico matches, with Messi’s Barcelona winning 16, Ronaldo’s Real Madrid taking 11, and 9 ending in draws. Their epic duels not only defined Spanish football but globalized La Liga in an unprecedented way.

Since that last meeting, Messi has joined Inter Miami in the MLS, while Ronaldo now plays for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

Although both are in the twilight of their careers, they remain influential figures in the sport—and Tevez’s farewell match could offer a final chance to see them play together for the first time ever.
