Junior Starlets coach Mildred Cheche has unveiled a diverse provisional squad for the 2024 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup qualifiers.

Newly appointed Junior Starlets head coach Mildred Cheche has announced a formidable provisional squad for the crucial upcoming 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The two-legged tie against DR Congo, set to commence this February, marks a significant step for the Kenya Under 17 Women's team under Cheche's guidance.

Assisted by Anne Aluoch, a former Harambee Starlets captain and the current national Under-15 head coach, Cheche has selected a diverse group of 30 players, demonstrating a blend of experience and emerging talent.

The squad's backbone features notable inclusions from FKF Women's Premier League side Soccer Assassins FC, which contributes five players.

Among them are goalkeeper Effie Awuor and defender Kimberly Akiny, both renowned for their resilience and agility. The midfield dynamism is bolstered by Brenda Awuor and Valerie Nekesa, while striker Catherine Wambui's inclusion is a nod to her impressive scoring prowess.

Valerie Nekesa, a standout performer, has already made headlines in the qualifiers, notably with a hat-trick against Angola in the first leg, followed by another goal in the return match.

The Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) national football champions, Butere Girls, are also well represented.

Defender Judith Nandwa, midfielder Lornah Faith, and striker Diana Anyango have been called up, highlighting the strength of school-level football in Kenya and its contribution to the national setup.

The Starlets’ journey begins with an away game in DR Congo on Sunday 4 February followed by a home leg exactly a week later.

The aggregate winner of these matches will advance to the third round, moving one step closer to the coveted World Cup berth.
