Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga kept alive his team’s hope of finishing this season with a trophy after scoring twice as Al Duhail searched the Emir Cup semi-final.

Michael Olunga continued his rich vein of form as he scored twice to hand Al Duhail a 3-2 win over Al Arabi and deliver his side into the semi-final of the Emir Cup.

The Harambee Stars captain continued from where he left last week when he scored once as Al Duhail sailed into the quarter-final and showed his quality again on Monday.

Tunisian winger Youssef Msakni opened the scoring for Al Arabi after just three minutes but Olunga brought his side level five minutes later, but the former scored his second of the game just two minutes later, for 2-1 in favour of the visitors.

Former Liverpool and Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho ensured the scores were 2-2 at the break when he levelled matters in the 25th minute.

Al Duhail then upped the ante after the break with Olunga scoring his second and his team’s third in the 59th minute, Christophe Galtier’s men holding on to claim the win and a place into the semi-final.

It was a good result for Al Duhail who are looking to finish the season with some piece of silverware after failing to defend their league crown while exiting the Asian Champions League at the group stage.

The Emir Cup is their only chance to win a trophy in what has been a poor campaign that sees them sixth in the league standings after a brilliant 2022-23 season that saw them claim three trophies while reaching the Champions League semi-final.
