Gor Mahia denied Kenya Police all three points on the final day of the 2024/2025 FKF Premier League season, as both sides settled for a 1-1 draw.

Gor Mahia held newly crowned FKF Premier League champions Kenya Police FC to a 1-1 draw on the final day of the 2024/25 season, denying them a winning send-off at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Despite the league title already secured by Kenya Police, the clash had all the markings of a top-flight thriller as Gor Mahia proved determined to end their campaign on a high note, frustrating their opponents with a spirited and disciplined performance.

First Half

After a relatively quiet and balanced opening 22 minutes, the game came alive in the 24th minute when Sharrif Musa broke the deadlock for Gor Mahia.

Receiving the ball out wide on the wing, Musa cut inside brilliantly, weaving past three Kenya Police defenders with a dazzling solo run before calmly slotting the ball past Job Ochieng to give Gor Mahia a 1-0 lead.

Kenya Police responded with a spell of pressure, and in the 35th minute, Levin Odhiambo came up with a crucial tackle to deny David Simiyu, who had isolated him one-on-one.

Three minutes later, the Police side created another dangerous moment, but Gad Mathews, with help from his defenders, cleared the danger to the delight of the Gor Mahia fans.

In the 39th minute, Police missed a golden opportunity to equalise when David Simiyu, played through by Tyson Otieno, failed to convert a clear chance in front of goal.

The first half ended with Gor Mahia holding a narrow 1-0 advantage.

After the break, Kenya Police head coach Etienne Ndayiragije made tactical changes, introducing Kenneth Muguna and David Okoth for Tyson Otieno and Brian Musa.

The substitutions injected urgency into Police’s play, and they began the second half with greater attacking intent.

Their early pressure nearly paid off when David Simiyu won a foul just outside the box, setting up a promising free-kick opportunity. However, Kenneth Muguna failed to capitalise, sending his effort wide of the target.

Police’s persistence finally bore fruit in the 56th minute, when substitute David Okoth Odhiambo rose at the near post to head home an equaliser, levelling the score at 1-1.

It was at this stage that the game became end to end, with both sides taking turns to launch waves of attacks at each other.

Gor Mahia even thought they had finally taken the lead in the 72nd minute after Austin Odhiambo set Benson Omala through on goal before he found the back of the net, but the referee ruled it out for offside.

Police nearly took the lead again from another attack when David Okoth received the ball and drove with it into the box before Joshua Onyango won the ball cleanly, leaving their fans exasperated that the referee had not called for a penalty.
