Jose Mourinho has selected one masterclass victory against Pep Guardiola as the peak of his tactical brilliance.

Jose Mourinho has recounted Inter’s Champions League success in a BBC Sport documentary — " How to win the Champions League."

The decorated Portuguese manager won the 2010 European Cup with the Nerazzurri against all odds, defeating the favoured Barcelona en route to the 2009-10 triumph.

Barcelona were managed by Pep Guardiola at the time, and the dominant Spanish side, led by Lionel Messi, were expected to beat the Serie A outfit.

Mourinho revisits Inter’s semi-final win over Guardiola’s Barcelona

Having claimed a 3-1 win in the first leg, Mourinho's Inter visited the home of Guardiola's reigning European champions with a decent advantage.

Despite a fervent belief among the Barcelona supporters, Inter's task then became significantly harder when Thiago Motta was shown a red card in the 28th minute.

However, the setback ushered in a 60-minute display of resolute defending that Mourinho believes defined his managerial identity.

The Portuguese manager considers that night at the Nou Camp one of his team's most emotionally charged performances in his entire career.

Facing Barcelona with 10 players was described as an epic challenge, requiring heroic efforts from every member of the Inter squad, and the experienced manager believes his tactical organisation helped in securing the aggregate victory.

"If I could choose one of my team's most emotional performances in my career of more than 20 years, I have to choose that one," said Mourinho of that Camp Nou night.

"We go to Barcelona and we know what was waiting for us in terms of atmosphere and the amazing quality of that team.

"To play with 10 players in Barcelona becomes epic. You need heroes. You need to have the best out of everybody.

"I think I was brilliant in the way I organised the team. We defended with everything we had - with hearts, with souls.

“This is the most beautiful defeat of my career. We gave absolutely everything. We lost 1-0. But we got to the final."

Despite losing 1-0 on the night, Inter ultimately won the tie 3-2 on aggregate.

Having reached the final, Inter went on to win the Champions League, with Mourinho once again triumphing in a showdown against Bayern Munich, managed by his former Barcelona boss Louis van Gaal.
