Barcelona have reportedly identified Dani Parejo as an option for the pivot position.

Villarreal's David Parejo has reportedly emerged as a viable option for Barcelona as they continue to scour the market for a Sergio Busquets replacement.

Their Spanish captain left the club at the end of the season and has now been announced by MLS side Inter Miami as a new signing, reuniting him with another Barcelona great, Lionel Messi.

Due to the club's financial situation, they are evaluating low-cost options to replace the legendary midfielder after losing Brozovic to Al-Nassr, and the former Valencia captain's name is now in the mix.

Parejo an option for Barca

According to Relevo, the Blaugrana are seriously considering Parejo as an option and will be able to sign him on a free transfer.

Per the report, despite having a contract with the Yellow Submarines until 2024, he has the option to leave for free this summer, as in his initial contract, he included the option to leave without a transfer fee after the third season.

It remains to be seen if the Spaniard would be open to the Barcelona move, as he is currently happy at Villarreal and was part of the Europa League triumph over Manchester United.

However, the move to the Blaugrana could give him a realistic chance at Europe's elite competition, and despite his advanced age, it could open up possibilities for him to play for Spain in next year's Euros.
