Eredivisie side Ajax have sacked manager Maurice Steijn after a shocking start to the season, which has left them 17th on the table.

Ajax have decided to rescue Maurice Steijn from the hell of the last few months by relieving him of his duties, and after last weekend's 4-3 reverse to Utrecht, it was a matter of when not if.

In a statement on Monday, the Dutch giants confirmed that Steijn has agreed to step down with immediate effect.

"Ajax and Maurice Steijn will part ways with immediate effect. The club management and Steijn have agreed that the coach will step down from his position.

"Steijn (Den Haag, November 20, 1973) transferred from Sparta Rotterdam to Ajax this summer and signed a contract until June 30, 2026."

Sunday Oliseh sounds Ajax relegation warning

On Monday, Pulse Sports reported that former Super Eagles captain and Ajax icon Sunday Oliseh was very worried about the current situation of the Amsterdam club.

Oliseh said:

"I have never seen my ex-club this poor! At this rate, Ajax just might get relegated, as strange as it sounds. Lots of work needs to be done on all sections.”

On Saturday, Ajax suffered their fourth defeat this season against Utrecht leaving them second bottom of the Eredivisie.
