BOXING Frustrated boxer Amina Martha rues poor officiating in loss to Landaeta

Olympian Elizabeth Akinyi surprised the masses after losing 0-5 to Taipei’s Lin Chein Yu.

Hit Squad boxer Amina Martha has blamed poor officiating for her 1-4 loss to Venezuela’s Gomez Landaeta at the ongoing 2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi, India.

Martha, who was in the bantam weight category had put up a good show with a quest to earn Kenya it’s first medal but all her efforts proved futile.

Speaking on KBC, Martha expressed her frustrations towards the 'unfair' judgment.

“I won the second round and I knew I had also won the third round. I played well. I feel like the officiating was not fair, I’ve just lost it like that,” she said.

On his part, head coach Benjamin Musa also expressed his disappointment towards the loss handed to Martha. He revealed that she had followed the scoring criterion set aside by IBA.

“She landed more cleaner punches on target and she was also dominant. To be honest, we are frustrated,” he said.

Meanwhile, debutant Pauline Chege also lost 5-0 to Guatemala’s Reyes Moreno. Chege noted that she had a lot to learn from the event. “You don’t lose, you learn,” she said.

Similarly, flyweight boxer Ann Wanjiru lost to Bagao Helena of Mozambique by the same margin. Lightweight boxer Lucy Ayoma also lost 1-4 to lost to Moldova’s Chiper Cristina. Olympian Elizabeth Akinyi surprised the masses after losing 0-5 to Taipei’s Lin Chein Yu.
