The main reason he will be heading to Switzerland is to attain the qualifying time for the Olympic Games in Paris next year.

Wiseman Were was Kenya’s sole representative in the men’s 400m hurdles race at the just-concluded World Championships in Budapest, Hungary and definitely there was a lot of pressure for him to deliver.

He managed to reach the semi-final in the event and just like any other athlete, he wanted to do better and hopefully reach the final.

However, he has not yet given up on his dream since he has gone back to the drawing and is sharpening his talons as he seeks to compete at the Gala Castelli Meeting in Switzerland on Monday, September 4.

The main reason he will be heading to Switzerland is to attain the qualifying time for the Olympic Games in Paris next year.

“I have a race in Switzerland and I am going to take the event as part of making the Olympic qualification because I know I have it so it’s just about perfection and I also want to improve on my time,” he said as per KBC Sport.

Were qualified for the World Championships after a scintillating run that saw him set a national record time of 48.52 during the National Championships held at the Nyayo National Stadium.

He had been trying to qualify for the global showpiece for the longest time and his dream finally came true when he made it to the Hungarian capital.

If he hits the qualifying standards for the Olympics, it will be his first time competing on the global stage and he will definitely be looking to fly Team Kenya’s flag high.
