Emmanuel Korir and Conseslus Kipruto have been off to poor starts of their Olympic season at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, Morocco.

Reigning Olympic champion Emmanuel Korir and former Olympic champion Conseslus Kipruto have been off to poor starts in their seasons following their dismal performance at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, Morocco.

Korir had a pretty awful season last year due to an injury setback that saw him fail to defend his 800m title at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. At the global event held at the Hungarian capital, he was eliminated after finishing fourth in the heats.

Prior to the World Championships, Korir had only competed in three Diamond League Meetings and in all of them, he had recorded poor performances.

At the meeting in Rabat, he faded to finish eighth before finishing 10th at the meeting in Paris. He then rounded off his Diamond League campaign with an eighth-place finish in Stockholm.

Starting off his season this year at the meeting in Rabat, Korir faded to finish ninth in a season-best time of 1:52.14.

Meanwhile, Kipruto also faced challenges last season and missed the World Championships for the first time since he made his debut at the 2013 World Championships in Russia.

In 2023, Kipruto started his season at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, where he failed to finish the race and then proceeded to the Meeting Nikaïa in France where he won.

He then competed at the trials for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary but failed to finish the race before proceeding to the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco where he finished a disappointing 14th.

He started his season in Rabat, where he faded to finish 18th in the race that was by Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali.
