Wiseman Were has disclosed what the 4x400m men's relay team is expecting ahead of the World Athletics Relays scheduled for the Bahamas early next month.

National 400m Hurdles champion Wiseman Were is confident ahead of the World Athletics Relays in Nassau, the Bahamas scheduled for Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 May.

Were believes the team selected can stun the world and also qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris, France later this year.

He admitted that the African Games in Ghana were a great build-up for him as he seeks to work with the relay team. He was selected in Team Kenya's squad alongside Zablon Ekwam, David Sanayek, Boniface Mweresa, and Brian Tenega. Mortalel Nandokila, Kelvin Kipkorir, Nathaniel Kipngetich, and Kennedy Kimeu.

“My combination and that of other athletes will certainly see us post a good time and from there, we shall finish in the podium bracket.

“If the spirits are high and we blend well, then we shall achieve something great. I wasn’t in South Africa but I believe those who were there learnt a lot of skills and I believe they got the experience of how things happen because that experience is necessary.

“I was in Accra, Ghana and I think coming back and joining my fellow athletes in the camp, we are going to make a good team from the previous competitions. I’m sure we will run well,” Were said.

At the African Games in Ghana, Were reached the final of the 400m Hurdles where he finished fourth in a time of 50.10. In the semifinal, he clocked 49.41 to cross the finish line. He now shifts focus to the World Relays and then the Olympic Games.

“In Accra, my race was good though not so good because of some conditions. However, it was different because I opened my season with 49.41, something I have never achieved.

“Looking forward to the Olympics and I don’t have any doubts, I know what I can produce and I’m always ready and I’m looking for the good things that this season has to offer,” he added.
