“The season is about to start in the next few weeks to come and as usual, we want to go for fast times. We have already run fast times before and we want to go beyond that,” Were said in an interview with Sports Eye.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed quite an amazing 2023 season that even saw him get to the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. He was also unbeaten in the 110m Hurdles races that he competed in locally.

In his main specialty, the 400mH, he started his campaign at the second Athletics Kenya weekend meet before going for his outdoor tour in South Africa. He competed in two races where he won and finished third respectively.

Were then headed to the Botswana Golden Grand Prix where he impressed in a third-place finish before dominating in the Kenya Defense Forces Championships.

The hurdler then competed at the Akii-Bua Memorial, winning the race before he qualified for the World Championships after setting a new national record at the National Championships.

Participating in the global stage was a dream come true for Were since he was making his debut. He failed to get to the final after a sixth-place finish in the semifinal. Were wound up his season at the Gala dei Castelli where he finished fifth in the final.
