Noah Lyles And Co Warned of NCAA Star Ahead of World Championships

Noah Lyles, Kenny Bednarek, Fred Kerley and Christian Coleman have been warned of an NCAA star ahead of World Championship.

The American sprinting scene is buzzing, not with the usual Noah Lyles hype, but with a bold prediction that has everyone talking.

The established hierarchy of Lyles, Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley and Kenny Bednarek is facing a serious challenge from a surprising source.

Lyles, the expected leader, hasn't raced a single 100m this season and Coleman, once dominant, has struggled. Even Bednarek's world-leading 9.86 hasn't silenced the doubters.

Into this uncertainty steps 400m specialist Noah Williams, who declared on the Track World News podcast that none of these stars are guaranteed a spot at the World Championships.

Williams' confidence stems from the emergence of Jordan Anthony, a 20-year-old University of Arkansas sophomore.

Anthony's wind-aided 9.75 (+2.1 m/s) at the NCAA West First Round sent shockwaves through the track world. Williams argues that even accounting for the wind, Anthony's raw speed is undeniable.

"Jordan Anthony ran a 9.75 with a 2.1 wind. Let's say he ran 9.79, that’s still a 9.7 early," Williams explained as quoted by Essentially Sports.

"His talent level is better than 95% of the field that’s going to be at the US Championships. A prime Christian Coleman was capable of that, but not in 2025. A prime Fred Kerley can do that, but not in 2025. So that’s why I say he’s my favorite right now."

The debate highlights the unpredictable nature of this year's US sprint scene.

Lyles, with a personal best of 9.79, is strangely absent from the 100m. Kerley, despite a 9.76 personal best, has only managed a 9.87 this season. Bednarek, also with a 9.79 personal best, sits at 9.86 for the year.

With the US Championships fast approaching, the question remains whether, the established stars reclaim their dominance, or will a rising talent like Anthony seize the opportunity?
