Kenya’s Wiseman Were ran a personal best in the 400m hurdles as he lowered the meet record to hit the World Championships qualifying standard at Kip Keino Classic.

Kenya’s Wiseman Were shrugged off competitions to set a meet record and clock his personal best as he won the 400m hurdles at Kip Keino Classic on Saturday.

Were, buoyed by the home crowd at the Ulinzi Complex, was not so quick off the blocks but made up for it when it mattered most.

Getting to the penultimate hurdle, Were was still trailing Botswana’s Kemorena Tisang but he accelerated past him at the final one to cross the line first in a new personal best time of 48.34 seconds to smash the meet record at the Kip Keino Classic.

Were’s time also saw him hit the World Championships qualifying standard in which was a massive boost for the sprinter.

The Kenyan won the race ahead of Tisang, who managed a personal best 48.59 seconds, while another Kenyan Kipkorir Rotich also improved his personal best, timing 49.17 seconds, in what was a fast race.
