Julius Yego to make third attempt to qualify for Paris 2024 Olympics in Doha

The 2015 World champion Julius Yego will be making his third attempt to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar.

African record holder Julius Yego is a man on a mission as he bids to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games coming up later this year at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, scheduled for Friday, May 10.

The former World champion will be making a third attempt to qualify for the global bonanza for the fourth time after making appearances in the 2012 London Olympics, the 2016 Rio Olympics and the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In his debut in the Olympics, he finished 11th at the event and then proceeded to claim a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. In the delayed showpiece in Tokyo, Yego could not go past the qualification stage.

As per the Olympics.com, the 10,000m, combined events, race walks and relays, the qualification and ranking period will be between December 31, 2022, and June 30, 2024. In order to qualify for the men’s javelin, Yego has to throw 85.50m to make the cut to the event.

He tried qualifying at the African Games in Accra, Ghana, where he threw 81.74m to settle for a silver medal. The 2015 World javelin champion also proceeded to the Kip Keino Classic but faded to finish ninth after throwing 72.25m.

He will be up against reigning Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, who was in great form last season and he will certainly be hoping to extend the winning streak to this season.

European champion Julian Weber, who finished fourth at both the Olympic Games and World Championships, will also be in the mix, hoping to kickstart his season on a high.
