The World Indoor Tour in Lievin, will feature Olympic Champion Marcell Jacobs and Commonwealth Champion Ferdinand Omanyala clash for the first time this season.

The World Athletics Indoor Tour meeting in Lievin on Wednesday will witness the best track and field athletes assembled in the meeting's illustrious history.

One of the thrilling clashes to anticipate is the men's 60m, which features Olympic 100m Champion Marcell Jacobs up against African Champion Ferdinand Omanyala.

Jacobs is the reigning World 60m Indoor Champion, who opened his season with a time of 6.57s in Lodz on February 4 and will be seeking to get closer to his Personal Best (PB) of 6.41s given the times already established by the top runners in the event this season.

Marcell Jacobs will be aiming for a new season's best in Lievin

USA's Trayvon Bromell leads the world standings with 6.42s, followed by his compatriots Christian Coleman (6.47s) and Micah Williams (6.49s), as well as Great Britain's Reece Prescod with 6.49s.

In the absence of the above names and other runners on the top list, Omanyala is his hot opposition and fastest in the 60m field lined up in Lievin.

Omanyala will target a famous win against Jacobs in Lievin

The Kenyan African Record (AR) holder and Commonwealth Champion stormed to a new 60m PB and National Record of 6.55s to win the event at the Meeting D'Athletisime Mondeville last week and will be aiming for a famous win against the Italian.

Both men are undefeated in 2023, which bodes for an epic clash and expectation of a fast race considering the track at the stadium is known to produce several World Record times.

However, they will have Ivory Coast’s Arthur Cisse in a hot chase for an upset, who has clocked 6.57s this season and has a PB of 6.53s.

The trio will surely be gunning for a 6.4s to belong to the league of fastest indoor runners this year.
