The Kenyan 4x400m women’s relay team has been forced to exit the World Athletics Relays Championships in Guangzhou, China, following a disqualification.

Team Great Britain claimed the win dominantly, crossing the finish line in a time of 3:24.46 ahead of Belgium and Poland, who came in second and third in respective times of 3:24.52 and 3:24.56.

Brazil and Poland missed out on a chance to compete at the World Championships after missing the podium too and will have to join Kenya in awaiting the world rankings.

In the first qualifying round, Kenya was in heat three, competing against Team South Africa, Germany, Ireland, Poland and Jamaica.

The women put up a good fight, securing fourth place in the race, but it was not enough to secure them a place in the final or a slot in the World Championships, hence the need to return for the second qualifying round.

The heat was won by Team South Africa, who clocked a national record time of 3:28.01 to cross the finish line ahead of Germany, who clocked 3:28.63. Ireland rounded up the podium.

The other two heats saw Team USA and Spain claim top honours to book their slots in the final. France and Italy also booked automatic slots to the final where each team will be fighting for a place on the podium and hopefully walk away with the prize money set aside.
