Twanisha 'Tee Tee' Terry has explained why she would never replace Sha'Carri Richardson as USA's final leg specialist in the women's 4 by 100m relay after she anchored the side to the final of the World Athletics relays in China.
Twanisha “Tee Tee” Terry has revealed why she is more than happy to let Sha’Carri Richardson anchor the U.S. women’s 4x100m relay — even though she has proven herself capable of delivering gold from that position in the past.
Fresh off leading Team USA into the final at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China, Terry opened up about her preferred role on the relay squad.
Although she anchored the U.S. team during the heats due to Richardson’s absence, the Star Athletics sprinter is firmly Team Backstretch when it comes to relay strategy.

Benni McCarthy’s Harambee Stars Get High Praise from Nigeria Coach as He Identifies Where Rising Stars Failed
Nigeria Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has opened up on what has impressed him about Harambee Stars while giving Rising Stars tips on how to improve.
“I definitely prefer second leg because I definitely eat the back stretch up,” Terry said during her appearance on The Inside Lane.
“There is a different race pattern. Something else just comes out of Tee Tee and I am trying to translate that onto individual.”
Terry, who played a key role in the U.S. team’s 4x100m gold at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, has been the nation’s go-to backstretch runner in recent relays.
She anchored the heats in Guangzhou due to Richardson’s absence but insists she is best suited for the second leg — a position that maximizes her ability to accelerate down the long back straight.
“I definitely love second. I don’t mind fourth leg. In high school, all I did was second leg. In college, as a freshman, I was thrown into fourth leg and that is all I did in college, and then I was able to dib and dab here for USA,” Terry said. “I would be available for any when needed, but I definitely love second leg.”

Terry: Richardson’s top end speed unmatched

Despite her versatility, Terry has no plans of permanently replacing her training partner and Olympic champion Richardson on the anchor leg — and for good reason.
“Throughout the season, we see each other’s strengths and weaknesses. So, like for instance, Sha’Carri, we know she has excellent top-end speed.
"She’s going to hold down the fourth leg no matter what,” she told Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller in another conversation last September.
That top-end speed was on full display during the 2024 Olympics, when Richardson turned a deficit into gold by reeling in Team Britain and Germany in a stunning anchor leg performance that made global headlines.
In the relay final, Melissa Jefferson got things started before handing off to Terry, who then passed the baton to Gabby Thomas. Richardson took over from there and surged ahead with a fierce kick and a defiant glare to seal the win.

Gor Mahia Hold Internal Clash Amid Postponed Mashemeji Derby
Gor Mahia utilized their lack of a fixture this weekend with an in-house clash following their postponed Mashemeji Derby.
Terry’s chemistry with Richardson — both on the track and in training at Star Athletics — has been vital to Team USA’s success. She appreciates the shared knowledge and mutual understanding they’ve built over time.
In a team full of stars, Terry has found her perfect lane — and she’s more than content to eat up the backstretch and let Richardson do the finishing.
