Fred Kerley has reacted to his 400m comeback victory and here is why his response will send tongues wagging.

The 2022 100m world champion Fred Kerley made a statement over the weekend after cruising to 400m win in his first race over the distance in two years.

The Paris Olympic bronze medalist crushed it with a winning time of 44.73 seconds, edging out Arizona State’s Jayden Davis with a dramatic final stretch at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 19.

This prompted the 29-year-old Texas-born sprinter to hilariously comment about his win on the X platform, formerly Twitter, saying: "Was locking up."

Kerley admitted it’ll take some time to fully get back to peak 400m form, but his performance was a clear sign that his muscle memory and determination are still very much intact

His personal best in the 400m event is 43.64, and while he is yet to dip under 44 seconds, could such an astounding victory be indicative that he isn’t too far from shattering his personal goal?

Kerley, one of the three men along with Michael Norman and Wayde Van Niekerk to go sub-10 seconds in 100m, sub-20 seconds in 200m and sub-44s seconds in 400m, has hinted that running more 400m races in 2025.

Fred Kerley's rivalry with Noah Lyles continues to elicit mixed reactions from the sprinting world.

While Kerley was on a redemption mission, Olympic 100m champion Lyles flopped at the final at the Tom Jones Invitational, finishing a disappointing 14th position with a time of 45.87 seconds.

The competition between Noah Lyles and Fred Kerley has reached a higher level of rivalry. Fred Kerley expressed his intense criticism about Noah Lyles during his appearance on The Pivot podcast by saying Lyles was not on his level.

Kerley continued his statement by instructing Lyles to examine the record book. While Lyles has been positioning himself as the top dog in the sport, Kerley’s big win was a not-so-subtle reminder that he’s not backing down. And honestly, it might’ve been a little jab at Lyles, too.
