Christian Coleman has broken his silence, defending Sha'Carri Richardson after her arrest for alleged assault, as he pointed to deeper reasons behind his support.

Christian Coleman has detailed why Sha’Carri Richardson should not have been arrested after allegedly assaulting him at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Sha’Carri Richardson was charged with a fourth-degree domestic violence charge, but Christian Coleman has since strongly defended her.

In an interview shared by Citius Mag on YouTube, Christian Coleman detailed several reasons why Sha’Carri Richardson remains one of the best.

Christian Coleman emphasised the need for mistakes to be met with understanding, not harsh judgment, as he referenced the Sha’Carri Richardson incident.

In his words, Christian Coleman noted that every person has flaws and areas for growth, and athletes, including Sha’Carri Richardson and himself, are no exception.

“I feel like it was just a sucky situation all around. Like I don't feel as if she should have been arrested. I mean, you know, people have discussions and emotions, and stuff like that, and she has things that she needs to work on for herself. Of course, so do I, and so do you,” Christian Coleman said.

“I'm the type of guy in the business of extending grace and mercy and love. I feel as if I don't try to look at obstacles either. Like I just look at situations like this to take a step back, analyse yourself mentally and then just try to see what you can do to be your best self so that you can move forward.

“So, you can just be the type of person and the human that God needs you to be for his kingdom and his glory.”

Christian Coleman’s approach underlines a growing call in sports to treat athletes as humans first, as he advocated for personal reflection and compassion.

Sha’Carri Richardson has not had one of the easiest journeys to the top, from her Olympic suspension in 2021 to injury setbacks, and to rising back to become world champion.

Christina Coleman has been fortunate enough to see it all, up close. He observed that Sha’Carri Richardson always finds a way to bounce back amid challenges.

“She's a human being and a great person. And I feel like we've been able to be like really good teammates like all year. Us coming together, like we're just two, like real dominant personalities, and she's to me the best female athlete in the world,” Coleman revealed.

“Being so up close and personal with her every day and I’ve watched this girl fall on the track like in February and walk it off, like a cramp, but get back up and have to take like a month and a half of just like rehab and trying to come back and then three weeks later have a competition.”

Through his training experience with Sha’Carri Richardson, Christian Coleman made clear that her strength goes far beyond speed.

Christian Coleman was blunt about his frustration with how Sha’Carri Richardson is constantly portrayed in the media. He called out the negativity, labelling it unhelpful and untrue.

“That's kind of how I look at the situation, and I hate the narrative, too; it’s so negative. But, like I said, it's just like in the state of Seattle, even talking to the cop or whatever, it was just like it was nothing I could do. It's just like I understood. But, I mean, like I said, it was just a sucky situation,” Coleman said.

This is not the first time Sha’Carri Richardson has been scrutinised. From her unapologetic persona to her appearance and demeanour, she has often been criticised more harshly.

Christian Coleman’s respect stems from proximity; he has trained alongside Sha’Carri Richardson, watched her rebuild, and understands how much she pours into her craft.

He spoke about his transition to a new training group, the emotional toll of recovery, the constant pressure he faces and how Sha’Carri Richardson was instrumental in his adaptation.

Few athletes get to see that kind of vulnerability from a teammate, and even fewer choose to speak about it with this level of honesty.

“She just had a lot of things going on, and like a lot of emotions and forces going on inside of her that, not only can I understand, but nobody can. I know that it's been a tough journey for her this year, but she's going to bounce back, and like I said, I see it every day,” Christian Coleman said.

Despite the controversy, Christian Coleman’s faith in Sha’Carri Richardson as an athlete remains unshaken. For him, her athleticism, discipline, and determination outweigh any one incident.

“She is the best female athlete in the world, and she's going to be just fine. She's going to be good and I'm going to be good, too,” Christian Coleman said.

Christian Coleman has chosen to remain by Sha’Carri Richardson’s side despite the assault allegations that made headlines over the weekend.
