Beatrice Chebet has addressed her decision to withdraw from the World Cross Country Championships, hinting at a new chapter while assuring fans of her return in the future.
Double world champion Beatrice Chebet has spoken for the first time after withdrawing from Kenya’s team from the World Cross Country Championships scheduled for Tallahassee, Florida, on January 10.
Fans were expecting her to go for a rare hat-trick, after winning the two previous editions in Bathurst, Australia and Belgrade, Serbia.
Now, Team Kenya will be represented by 10km world record holder Agnes Ngetich, Maurine Chebor, Brenda Kenei, Rebecca Mwangi, Caren Chebet and Joyline Jepkemoi.

Beatrice Chebet enjoyed a historic 2025 season, cemented by her performance at the Prefontaine Classic, where she became the first woman to break the 14-minute barrier in the 5,000m with a world record time of 13:58.06.
She carried that momentum into the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, achieving a spectacular distance double by winning gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m events.
Her victory in the 5,000m was particularly notable as she edged out her teammate Faith Kipyegon in a thrilling final sprint.
