Beatrice Chebet, who has smashed multiple records in the 5000 and 10000m events, clinched gold medals at both the Olympics and World Championships, is set to be honored by the Kabianga University.

Decorated Kenyan distance runner Beatrice Chebet will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of Kabianga, recognizing her exceptional contributions to global athletics. The honour will be conferred on November 14 during the university’s 13th graduation ceremony in Kericho County.

The recognition caps a historic year for the 25-year-old star, who claimed double gold at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Japan, winning both the 10,000m and 5,000m titles.

Her triumph in the 5,000m saw her outpace compatriot Faith Kipyegon, continuing a golden streak that also included Olympic victories in the same events at the 2024 Paris Games.

She is a double gold medallist in the 10,000-meter and 5,000-meter races at the 2024 Summer Olympics and the 2025 World Athletics Championships. She is also the current world record-holder in the 5,000-meter, 10,000-meter, and 5-kilometre road races.”

The statement further celebrated her influence beyond the track:

“She has represented Kenya in numerous international events, and her story promotes the values of hard work, resilience, excellence, ethical sportsmanship, professionalism, and patriotism.”

Chebet, who hails from Saramek in Londiani, Kericho County, has also been nominated for the 2025 World Athlete of the Year award.

Reacting to the honour as quoted by Nation, Chebet expressed deep gratitude and said the recognition motivates her to continue inspiring others:

“I’m happy to have been honoured by Kabianga University. They have seen the hard work I have put in to inspire the younger generation and show them that it is possible.”

The accolade not only cements Chebet’s place among Kenya’s all-time greats but also highlights her growing legacy as a champion athlete and role model for aspiring runners across Africa and beyond.
