Liberia impressed in the women’s 100m at the Kip Keino Classic, with strong performances against international competition in Nairobi.

Liberia’s sprinters stole the spotlight in the women’s 100m at the Kip Keino Classic, as Maia McCoy and Destiny Smith-Barnett powered to a dominant 1-2 finish, leaving American sprinter Shannon Ray trailing in fifth.

The Liberian compatriot, Smith-Barnett, pushed hard from lane five to take second place in 11.29 seconds, registering her season’s best.

Egypt’s Bassant Hemida also delivered a notable performance, finishing third in 11.49 seconds, also her best time this season.

Botswana’s Refilwe Murangi claimed fourth place in 11.57 seconds, followed by America’s Shannon Ray, who struggled to find her rhythm and crossed the line in 11.64 seconds.

Ray, a seasoned sprinter with international experience, appeared visibly off pace in the face of the Liberian duo’s blistering speed.

Tsaone Bakani Sebele, also from Botswana, finished sixth in 11.66 seconds. Kenya’s Milcent Ndoro and Doreen Waka rounded out the field in seventh and eighth places, with times of 11.93 and 11.96 seconds respectively.

The women’s 100m final was a highlight at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, thrilling the Nairobi crowd with elite-level performances and a growing sense of continental pride.
