He revealed that the main aim of the marathon is to plant trees with a quest of making the environment cleaner. He added that they also wanted to empower the people who will perform well by rewarding them with prize money.

“We started the preparations in February this year. Last year in December, we had come up with this initiative to make Lukenya greener. We shall start by planting trees and our aim is to do more than 3000 trees,” he said, as quoted by KTN Sport.

The race categories include the 10km, half marathon, and full marathon. Nyamboga said the course has already been prepared and athletes do not have to be worried about that.

Meanwhile, Lydia Awino, a student at the University noted that the initiative of the marathon will be of great importance not only to the school but to the community at large.

“This being a dry area, we rarely get enough rains and we struggle with water shortages. The initiative to plant the trees I believe will bring enough rains which will not only be of benefit to us but also to the people around,” she said.
